We had time for a quick dinner before trudging back in the pouring rain, and literally got there just in time. I think we sat down only minutes before the show started, I've never cut it so close before! But we were there and with decent seats (honestly, that website is a bit misleading), although it was strange not being down in the stalls, in the thick of things, but at least our view wasn't blocked (not so keen on flat-seated stalls). I do think Debs enjoyed it, luckily, and I know she definitely enjoyed 3 specific numbers, but I'm not so sure about the guy on my other side, drag-along husband, I suspect.
I always look forward to hearing new songs at Michael's concerts, not sure about all the names, but I really enjoyed 'Are We Human?' (I was so into it I didn't realise I've been hearing that song for weeks, on a Comedy Channel advert)... I totally saw a joke coming, though, lol! In fact, I reckon I'd have been disappointed if he hadn't had made a joke out of it. I also particularly enjoyed the next one, name's gone but he had a backstory with it(classic album track?), it was very emotive and inspiring, brilliant. The JCS medley was good for showcasing the guests, but what subconsciously kept me going through that (I liked it, didn't love it, but had forgotten what was coming) was finally hearing Gethsemane live! I think this is one of my favourite songs for Michael to sing live and I've longed for the day for years. It's so powerful it just really blows my mind. 'Starlight Express' was a surprise for me, cause I wasn't sure I'd enjoy it too much, but I was pleasantly surprised. Between that and the 'Just When' duet, I'm now very into Adrian's voice; it's just so beautiful and versatile. Fantastic.
I found it a bit weird having 'Don't Stop Me Now' so early on, but I'm just happy it was included. I really enjoyed the Hairspray section: I Know Where I've Been is a superb song, and it was so amazing to finally hear it live. You Can't Stop The Beat was great, but it was having more than Michael's voice, y encima Adrian and Ben, but not actually singing their parts, and no Tracey or Penny... it felt a bit odd.
I always enjoyed LCE in concert. In fact, with the exception of 1 cd recording and 1 taped recording, it's the only time I'll ever listen to it. I think it's because it makes it seem more real for me, makes more of an impact and reminds me how I was introduced to his music, so it means a lot, but only in that powerful sort of setting. And, of course, 'The Impossible Dream'. Wow! Just Wow! Despite the initial hiccup of the speaker going bust (if that's what that was - honestly, for a second I thought it was my ear, I was horrified when Michael stopped singing and yanked his earpiece out! Poor thing, you couldn't help but feel for the guy, but ofc he did the typical Michael thing, made a joke and got on with it.), he more than pulled it off and it was a fantastic encore. At that point I wasn't even concerned about whether or not Debs had enjoyed it, because, as per usual, the overall emotion of the whole concert, combined with the emotion and power of the song, had really got to me and I was totally overcome!
It was an awesome day and a truly awesome concert!! Michael was amazing as always!
To top it off, we had started to follow the tour buses out, but Debs took a short but to the motorway and decided herself (I swear, I'd never think of this) to go for the whole 'slow down, then overtake, honking horns, etc... Lol! It was such a laugh, although I had to remind her Michael's bus had left 2nd and we'd basically just flagged down the wrong bus, so we had to slow down and wait for his! Hehe!! What a riot! We did the same thing, but I managed to look over as we overtook (the 1st time) and could see Andrew sitting just behind the driver. Still, at least we knew it was the right bus so we made for a 2nd overtake!
As you may have guessed, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
